The Butterfly House Approach

Our guiding principles are designed to promote the best standards of dementia care.

Teamwork

At Butterfly House we use a team approach to dementia care. Our team not only consists of all levels of staff, including volunteers, but relatives and advocates as well.

We use a person-centred approach to care, using knowledge of a person’s history and personality to assist us to provide the right support and maintain dignity and choice. Our home is designed to provide the best possible environment for people living with a dementia.

People who live at Butterfly House will be supported to live as well as possible with their condition, and to make the most of life. We are committed to creating a vibrant home community in which each individual can thrive.

We are always seeking enthusiastic and motivated people to join the Butterfly House team If you are thinking of a career in care or any one of our associated roles, then please contact us for information and an application form at admin@butterflyhouse.care

Service-user involvement

As part of our efforts to promote independence, we have a policy of allowing those who live here to take calculated risks, and as far as possible to make their own choices. User involvement extends to meal planning, suggestions for preferred activities, considering environmental issues, involvement in care planning, and even participating in the interview process for prospective staff. This helps to maintain a strong voice and give those who live here the opportunity to express themselves. We are also committed to engaging with friends, family and loved ones wherever possible.

Medication

We are committed to the minimum use of medication and we do not operate a covert medication policy.

Activities

We recognise that occupation is a necessary part of maintaining skills and improving the wellbeing of the people that chose to live with us, so social stimulation is a high priority at Butterfly House. We have a varied programme of activities which is planned with the involvement of our clients. Our minibus is used for outings to the surrounding area. Butterfly House has its own café in the gardens and a variety of casual areas on the ground floor where everyone can enjoy relaxed seating

The home has WiFi connection in all areas for our state-of-the-art Magic Table which is an interactive source for all to enjoy. The pretty, moving light projections stimulate intuitive movements.

Were are committed to continuous improvement and encourage input and suggestions from family and loved ones in helping us shape our approach to activities.
